Why SEO is important in Content Marketing?
It has always been a marketers challenge to deliver the right message to the ideal audience via the correct marketing channels. Traditional methods to counter this conundrum are paid content, print ads in newspapers, magazines and periodicals. The broad distribution channels of these publishers and an innate understanding of their readers have helped media houses to choose the content and the publishers for promotions.
However, this strategy is more of push marketing and not exactly in tune with the consumption-driven behaviour of the current times.
Today's consumer is spoilt for choice and wants to choose their own content. Relevant, fascinating and engaging are some of the attributes of the viral content.
Thus, it is pragmatic to go with the flow and communicate with consumers which are in line with their interests. Content which is easily available and readily consumed.
How is the content discovered?
Making content discoverable via social media:
Social Media Networks are an immense ocean wherein all types of content are consumed. Posts, regular updates, comments, interaction, attractive headlines, precise tags, relevant news, sports posts, humorous memes there’s something for everyone on social media networks. By choosing the right words, your content is easily discovered. Apart from the organic and inorganic (paid) methods of discovery, social media has given us a new tool, Hashtags (#SEO #ContentMarketing). Just as the SEO works for search engines, hashtags work for social media networks albeit they are not as dependable as SEO's.
Making content discoverable via the search engine (SEO):
Search Engines are the Holy Grail for any content seeker. They provide the proper results for your query. I used Google Search while writing this blog. Out of thousands and lakhs of pages about content marketing, search engines will show this page as a valid result as directed by their algorithms. Right keywords matter here a lot.
Content Discovery Platforms:
The ease of content consumption and the people searching for it have grown steadily over the years. Content discovery platforms such as Taboola, Outbrain etc make it easy to find the correct audience for your content.
How do I optimise my content by SEO to make my content more relevant, readily consumable and easily discoverable?
By making sure that you are crafting the content with the correct strategy. Fretting too much about search engine algorithms will make you lose the focus from your consumer's wants and needs. The end product should be for the consumer and not for the search engines.
Effective content marketing is backed by an efficient SEO strategy. Meta Tags and smart use of keywords makes your page the best option for consumption.
